General
Where does the name come from?
From George Orwell’s dark novel ‘1984’ in which Julia gives Winston a piece of chocolate and before he tastes it, he knew by the smell that it was very unusual chocolate! My initials are “WJ” – so Winston & Julia as a name was written in the stars!
What do the percentages mean on each bar of chocolate?
The cacao percentage is the ingredient content from the cacao plant, both the fat, ie cocoa butter, and the solids, variously named cocoa mass.
Are your products Kosher and/or Halaal?
Not certified at the moment. However, none of our products contain any alcohol. Our honeycomb is made with a minute amount of gelatin, but none of the other products contain ingredients that can be problematic.
At which stores can we purchase your chocolate?
Please visit our facebook page for stockists. If you do not see a stockist in your area, please contact us. Or shop online – it is always open!

How long will my chocolates stay fresh? How should I store chocolate?
All Winston & Julia chocolates are labeled with a "Best Before" date. Products kept beyond this recommended date may undergo texture, flavour or other changes. We recommend you store your bars in a cool, dry environment and avoid heat or moisture and direct sunlight at all costs. As a general rule, we do not recommend storing your chocolate in the refrigerator, but in a cool, dark place. But if you want to store chocolate for a longer period, wrap the package in plastic, close tightly, and refrigerate. Keep away from products with strong odours, like garlic and coffee.
Does your chocolates contain soy?
Yes, except for the 80% sugar-free range.
Is your chocolate gluten-free?
All our chocolate products are gluten-free.
Does your chocolates contain dairy?
Our Milk Chocolate slabs contain dairy as well as our Macadamias coated in milk and white chocolate. Our 56%, 70% and 80% chocolate products do not contain dairy. Our chocolate products are made in a facility that handles allergens like dairy. Please check our packaging, the ingredients and allergen warnings are listed on the back of the product.
Does your chocolate contain nuts?
Yes, we use nuts in some of our chocolate. This means that all of our chocolate is made on equipment that may have been in contact with nuts. Therefore, our other chocolate products may contain traces of peanuts and/or tree nuts. We are a very small factory and unfortunately we do not have the ability to have a separate production line for a totally nut free environment. Please check our packaging, the ingredients and allergen warnings are listed on the back of the product.
Do you have any sugar-free chocolate?
Yes, our 80% chocolate is cane sugar free and sweetened (slightly!) with Erythritol and Xylitol. The nuts coated in the 80% are completely sugar-free and suitable for diabetics. The sulphur-free dried fruit coated in 80% sugar-free chocolate, contains natural fructose and therefore not completely sugar-free.

Do you ship chocolate during warm weather or to warmer parts of the country?
Yes, but as the shipping conditions are out of our control, we cannot guarantee that your chocolates arrive in perfect condition. However, we do recommend that you choose the option of packaging in insulated boxes (cooler box) if we need to ship to a warm part of the country or shipping in summer to reduce the risk of melting.
